PSED/PSHE: School Readiness and the Building Blocks for Successful Learning
This one day course is specifically designed for Reception teachers and teaching assistants, Early Years practitioners, Early Years teachers and head teachers/managers.
‘School readiness has been linked with positive social and behavioural competencies in adulthood as well as improved academic outcomes in primary and secondary school, both in terms of equity and performance.‘ (UNICEF 2012)
The three 'prime' areas are seen as the essential 'building blocks' for securing these positive outcomes for young children in later life and into adulthood. By including Personal, Emotional and Social Development (PSED) as a prime area, children will learn positive dispositions such as empathy at an early age, so enabling them to understand their identity, form relationships and become effective members of society.
We will focus on:
- What does “School Ready” really mean?
- How the environment and relationships support children’s social and emotional development and well-being.
- Developing empathy and co-operation.
- Supporting independence, self-regulation and self-sufficiency.
- Promoting resilience and the confidence to ask questions, take risks and find solutions.
- Practical ways to develop personal, social and emotional skills and understanding.
- How the Characteristics of Effective Learning help children to be ready for school.
