Enhancing Boys Learning
A one day course for teachers, head teachers and teaching assistants in the EYFS at KS1, and for all practitioners in under-fives settings.
'If I have not yet learned to love Darth Vader, I have at least made some useful discoveries while watching him play. As I interrupt less, it becomes clear that boys play is serious drama, not morbid mischief. Its rhythms and images are often discordant to me but I must try to make sense of a style that, after all, belongs to half the population of the classroom.’
(Paley V G 1984)
Research evidence and national data frequently shows that boys underachieve within our education system. This course will look at ways in which you can make your curriculum boy-friendly.
We will focus on:
- Why and how boys struggle within the current system.
- Understanding how boys learn and think.
- How a boy friendly curriculum supports learning for girls.
- Harnessing physical activity to promote learning.
- Building on boys interests to support learning across the curriculum: EYFS and KS1.
