Independent Learning: underpinning progress and raising standards within the EYFS and KS1
This one day course is designed for teachers and teaching assistants in Reception and KS1 classes and all practitioners in under-fives settings.

We will focus on:
- What independent learning means and why it matters.
- Theoretical perspectives and how these inform statutory expectations.
- The impact of independent learning on improving progress and raising standards.
- How the ethos of the school/setting underpins independence and how this enhances effective teaching and learning.
- The crucial importance of the environment and its impact on independent learning and developing thinking skills.
- How the adult role ensures that children see themselves as independent learners.
- The significance of high quality continuous provision and focussed teaching.
- Strategies, ideas and organisation.
Characteristics of effective learning will be woven throughout the session
