Helen Banks
Helen has worked as a freelance trainer and adviser for the last five years. Prior to that she worked in early years and primary education for over 30 years. This included headship of two schools and a Senior Primary Adviser (Early Years) in Norfolk. She is an accredited trainer and facilitator for Learning through Landscapes and has worked on the core team for Communication Friendly Spaces.
She currently teaches on a Foundation Degree in Early Years Leadership and has extensive experience teaching and assessing on the EYPS programme and the new EYITT programme. These programmes all promote reflective practice and strong leadership in the early years. For the last three years she has been Eastern Region co-ordinator for the LtL Fruitfull Schools Programme working with children of all ages to create traditional orchards in their schools grounds. Helen also works as a School Development Adviser for the Norfolk Diocese. This work has provided the opportunity to engage with a wide range of schools and early years settings in Norfolk and nationally. Helen’s ongoing interest in child development started with her first degree in Psychology and continued in her work for her MA in Education.
Along with the rest of the team, Helen has a lifelong passion for promoting effective early years practice. Her own love of the outdoors is reflected in her interest in the benefits of outdoor learning for children. She is also passionate about children’s well-being and emotional development and in 2008 completed a Certificate in Emotional Literacy at the Institute for Arts and Therapy in Education in London.
Helen has recently become a grandmother and is taking great delight in ‘helping out’ and observing the incredible growth that happens in the first weeks of a child’s life.
